If you've played any game with exceptionally good achievements this year, then please nominate it for the "Best Game for Achievements 2023 Award".

I'd like to nominate

Dave the Diver
Really solid fun game. Achievements are pretty standard types, but what I liked with them is that they were very balanced in terms of time. After I completed the game, I could stretch the game for a few extra hours to get the 100%, but not in a way that felt grindy or extended beyond me still enjoying the game.

I have no choice but to nominate The Texas Chain saw Massacre being the only new game I played this year. Solid hide and seek horror game like DbD and Friday the 13th The Game. The achievements are nothing special however and it's lacking with certain characters like my favourite the hitchhiker. He only has two achievements that doesn't take long to achieve.

If I could nominate any game it would be Rare Replay. The achievements are some of the funniest and wittiest I have ever seen

I'm nominating Street Fighter 6. I appreciate when a game's achievements have a sense of style or flair while still being informative. Every achievement in SF6 matches that description, with the achievements feeling like one of the SF characters giving you a tip of something new to try.

In the same vein, I'll nominate Baldur's Gate 3. Each achievement has a bit of flavor text alongside them, and they cover a fairly good assortment of activities in the game. Some of them even suggest new types of actions to experiment with, which I think is fully in the spirit of the game.

For me the best GAME of 2023 is the Rhythm Game : SUPER CRAZY RHYTHM CASTLE !!! AWESOME !!

What I assume will be a fairly unsurprising vote, but mine is for Baldur's Gate 3. Have had a blast with this by myself and with mates on a Friday night - probably the best RPG I've played in years, and a good old fashioned turn-based story-heavy game was just what the doctor ordered.

The achievements as well are also not a chore, but not something I'm in any hurry to rush through as well (which is very rare these days!).

I have to agree. It has a solid achievement list. All except for two achievements can be done on any difficulty giving it accessibility for many players. The remaining two are difficulty achievements.

I would like to nominate Starfield for Game of the Year.

Uh... what's my newest game this year? I think Forbidden West was 2022, but I could be wrong so I'll just go with the safer bet - Pizza Tower.

also Warframe if there's an ongoing category

Love it or hate it, I will once again nominate a cat game.

Cattails: Wildwood Story, the sort-of follow-up story of the original Cattails of 2017 – had it on my wishlist for over a year. As they themselves said once, it is "Stardew Valley except for cats". You survive in the wild, hunt for food and takes control of territory, somewhat similar to the Warrior Cats. This time, instead of clan to clan fighting, you fight against a common enemy, the void cats.

It expands on the original, changes some things but you can still see familiar faces from Cattails. While you sometimes need good tactics to overcome hordes of invading void cats, it is - like the original - mostly easy.

It abandons the annoying "catch super rare bug" achievements and reduces the in-game playtime needed for achievements from 10 in-games years to just 3, i.e. no need to skip time intentionally like the old game. I don't have 100% yet but it looks like the developers optimized the achievement experience.

I really enjoyed the achievements in Papa's Freezeria. There's 90 of them on steam with a good mix of challenges. Stray has some really good ones too with some cute/funny ones as well as a couple more difficult ones.

If I have to choose just one, I guess I'll go with Stray as it was overall really cute and enjoyable and not grindy like the Papa's game

Gonna have to nominate Star Ocean: The Second Story R.

Star Ocean games have had... dubious achievement lists in the past (SO4 is infamous for a reason), but SO2R did it right. Do both storylines, recruit every character, play some of the minigames, do the bonus dungeon, defeat the secret superbosses, max out abilities, etc. It encourages you to do a full tour of the game without being obnoxious or too demanding.

I clarified the rules to allow games that make overhauls/big changes to their achievement systems too. Did they do that this year?

Well, for starters, they started rolling out cross-progression.

Examples:

https://metagamerscore.com/my_achievements?sort=ach_value&user=13278&date=2023-12-23

That being said, it was limited to roughly 100,000 people that managed to link their accounts within the window as well as the people that got earlier access due to their history as Founders or PC Prime Access buyers. It'll be more widespread this month.
