I start off by nominating Into the Breach. https://metagamerscore.com/game/43668

Into the Breach has a wide variety of achievements, where most are unlocked through skillful play, utilizing the strength of each squad. Some are unlocked by attempting to play the game in extra difficult ways, and some track completion.

The game-play that the player needs to perform in order to cover all the achievements are varied.

One of the strongest points of the achievements of Into the Breach is however the in-game tracking of the achievements. Achievements that require you to play extra difficult get marked as "failed" for each play-through if you miss them. The other achievements are clearly tracked in-game also.

As for the game, it is a very balanced tactical game, that also has fantastic story and writing.

As a side note - The achievements in their previous game - FTL - was also pretty good, but sadly they were only in-game achievements, not on Steam.

I think I might vote for the game Distance - it appears to be a racer but actually you have crazy control of your vehicle (flying/magnetism/jumps/etc.) so the game plays like a hybrid racer/platformer. The cheevos involve exploration for secrets, a very nice atmospheric storyline, and even some Tony Hawk-esque tricks mode + user mods.

I nominate Farm Together.

This was one of the best games I played in 2018 and the achievements were really great...some were easy with some that required a bit more work, a really good mix to have in a game. The best feature of the achievements (and the game itself) was that you could grab your friends and hop on a farm and do all the tasks together. All the achievements crossed over, so there were none that was required to be on your own individual farm(s). This was amazing as you could spend more time having fun with your friends and working through the achievements without having to go back and forth on each other's farm, unless you wanted to do so, of course.

Oh great, I was looking forward to this as 2018 was a strong year for high quality games with great achievement hunting experience.

First and foremost I would like to nominate God of War. Not only it is widely considered as one of the best games of this past year but it has also been a great pleasure to complete. There are no frustrating trophies, collectibles are reasonably easy to find and most of the achievements feel rewarding. The level design and gameplay is so strong with this one, the trophies doesn't feel like a simple gimmicky feature, but almost like an additional quest for the player. 100% completion can be achieved during single playtrough and boy... what a ride that is.

Secondly I would also like to nominate the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. And the reason being is that all three games in the trilogy pack are absolutely perfect for any completionist. The game is basically based on collecting all kinds of items - while doing quests and challenges - to gain another collectibles. For me this game is a mother of all collectathons and seeing it come back in its glory, giving players a chance to achieve three platinum trophies in one wonderful package made of colorful nostalgia, makes it a definite nominee for the Best Achievement Game of 2018.

And speaking of brilliant gems made by Insomniac I can't resist but to add a third nomination. Again, it wouldn't be a proper achievement hunting year without some open world action as that is probably a favorite genre of every collector and completionist out there. Insomniac's 2018 Spider-Man was an absolute blast and the fact that every 10th owner of the game managed to get all the achievements in the game speaks volumes about how enjoyable is both the game and its trophy list.

I'm going to nominate the Spyro Reignited Trilogy for my game/achievements of the year. The games were rebuilt from the ground up, which really shows through amazing scenery and colourful characters. I found a lot of the levels held up pretty well with age, even if some of the early levels in number one were rather short and easy.

Achievement-wise, the first two games had a number of interesting achievements to go along with the story-based ones, largely getting you to complete some out of the ordinary activities. The third game's achievements were fairly uninspired, but offers a nice reprieve and an easy to complete set.

The overall achievement difficulty would be sitting at around 4/10, which allows for a nice trip down memory lane without too much stress. This remastered trilogy further proves that nostalgia is king, and the lengths they went to to rebuild the games allows for a whole new generation to experience what we did in the late '90s.

Honourable Mentions:
- God of War
- Marvel's Spider-Man
